What started as a love of vintage and crafts has evolved into a new passion for homemade preserves. Still keeping the concept of a lifestyle from years gone by, where what was produced from the land was then converted to jams, etc.
Born in Mackay and second generation Maltese. Married with 2 children and 4 grandchildren. Living on small farm outside of Walkerston. I have had an administration background in retail, real estate, stockbroking and hospitality.
The majority of ingredients used in my cooking come from our property or are sourced locally as possible. With some marketing background I understand the importance of not only having your product taste good but presentation is of key importance.
It’s been nearly 3 years that I have been operating Retrospect Life and my husband John has come on board in the last 12 months with farm produce. He takes pleasure in seeing things grow and knowing where our food comes from.
My customer base has been developed over the years through local markets, facebook and word of mouth. I like to give customers the opportunity to do taste testing to allow them to appreciate the taste difference from store bought products. I also like to be creative with my jams in particular and you will find many that are different, not only in flavours but unique to the Mackay area.
Our philosophy of paddock to plate is very important to us. We use little or no chemicals on our vegetables and fruit and only use organic fertilisers. Being able to provide seasonal produce and having an outlet such as the GWFN has been very rewarding.
