Have you ever wanted to visit a real working farm and talk with the farmers? Well here is your opportunity. Join the Greater Whitsunday Food Network’s annual farm to plate bus tour to Eungella as presenters entertain you on along the journey.
Enjoy a morning tea and lunch from specialty local producers who will also have products available for you to purchase. Bring your pennies along and take some great local produce back with you. Our itinerary includes:
MECC Mackay – Boarding the bus commences at 8.00am sharp. Bus will travel through the Pioneer Valley, with stellar views of the sugarcane fields to Eungella.
Eungelladale Dairy – Nestled in the green rolling hills of Eungella, west of Mackay, Eungelladale specialises in bringing milk fresh from the cow to you. You will visit the dairy and meet Dale and Paula Fortescue and hear their incredible journey from milking their cows to bottling their milk.
Broken River – A visit to Broken River where we will stop for a locally sourced picnic morning tea. Coffee, tea and cold drinks are available to purchase from Platypus Lodge. Take a stroll along the special viewing platforms near the Broken River Information Centre and try your luck at spotting a platypus.
Cloudbreak Lowlines & Eungella Beef – Our next stop will be Mandy & Kell Tennent of Cloudbreak Lowlines, where we will enjoy the pristine mountain views in a relaxed and peaceful environment, sharing local produce and stories.
The farm tour will include the old dairy, feeding their specialty small breed of Lowline cattle and some great talks with Eungella local producers followed by lunch.
Ploughmans Lunch – We will enjoy paddock to plate pasture fed, free range, hormone-free Eungella Lowline Beef Ploughman’s Lunch and some local ginger beer from Goanna Brewery.
MECC Mackay - With full bellies, our day will conclude at 5.00 pm returning to the MECC Mackay.
What you need to know
We will be boarding the bus at 8am, please ensure you arrive on time to board.
Ample street parking is also available in nearby streets. Please be aware that on street parking includes a mix of restricted and non-restricted parking. You will find non-restricted centre parking in Wellington and Peel Streets, however please check sign conditions.
It gets cold in Eungella bring a jacket and wear appropriate clothing, which may include a raincoat, although we hope not.
We are visiting working farms, enclosed, sturdy shoes are essential.
Morning tea by Broken River is a lovely picnic spot, bring your picnic blanket or a chair if you prefer and get cozy for some platypus spotting.
If you wish to purchase produce on the day, please ensure you bring cash. We will have eskys available for cold storage.
