Glenys and her husband Graham are passionate about promoting Mackay Region’s fresh local produce.
Their roots in the land run deep through their farming and business interests as well as community contributions. Mansfield Park is a successful free-range beef and pork farm and at one time a tourism attraction, offering farm stay adventures to tourists, while their busy Motel in Sarina includes a Restaurant that exclusively serves Mansfield Park’s prime pork.
As Co-ordinator of the multi-award winning Sarina Sugar Shed for 11 years, Glenys has worked beside dedicated volunteers to showcase the culture and heritage of the local sugar and distilling industries.
Glenys’s innate understanding of both Agriculture and Tourism has seen her forge breakthroughs in bringing local paddock-to-plate-to-glass experiences and produce to market, with outstanding success. These include the establishment of the Sugar Shed commercial kitchen. A now thriving cottage industry using seasonal over-supplies to produce a range of quality sauces through the kitchen, turning possible wastage into economic returns and complementing the “Sugar Shed’s award winning liqueurs and rum.
Glenys is Chair of the Events Committee of the GWFN who work together to bring events such as the Queensland Week Farm to Plate Dinner to the region and develop a culinary hub with top Australian and local Chefs.
Of her many goals, number one is to conserve local heritage through sustainable farming by connecting locals with tourists through the full, fresh flavours of the region’s finest seasonal foods.
